Student Report Instructions
Students working in pairs must prepare a 2-3 page (single spaced) written report on disease topic. In addition the student team must present the material to their laboratory section in a 5-10 minute oral presentation. The written reports are due the week before the oral reports. The reports must be submitted electronically In Box. The reports will be graded with the following criteria.
  • Style (10 points) The written report should be typed (single spaced), clear, complete, and concise. It must be written in your own words. I'm not an English master, but the report should be free of spelling errors and grammar should be good. These points will be assigned based on how easy and enjoyable the paper was to read.
  • Description of the disease (12 points) and normal physiology (12 points) Please focus on the description of the disease and the cause, not the symptoms and treatment. Explain the related normal physiology and make an explicit connection to the lecture material. (One way to be explicit is to say something like, “We learned in lecture that the heart normally beats.....”) These two sections should be the meat of your report and should make up at least one page (single spaced).
  • Other material (8 points) Figures, diagrams, pictures, statistics, research, treatment (standard and alternative),etc. Here you can add some material about the disease that you found interesting during your research.
  • Questions (10 points) Prepare five questions that would be suitable for a quiz. These question should be on the material you will be presenting in the oral presentation and may be about the disease or the normal physiology.
  • References (8 points) List at least 4 different references of the following types: one to two textbooks, one to two books or journals, and/or one to two web sites.
  • Oral Presentation (10 points) The oral presentation should be 5 to10 minutes (timed - you will be stopped at 10 minutes), well organized and must be presented, not read. For the presentation focus on the description of the disease and the cause and the related normal physiology only. Be prepared to answer questions after your prepared presentation.

These are the final sign up sheets. If you would decide to switch to an available topic or pair up with someone please email me for approval: drode@santarosa.edu
